Saying Hello!! Giraffe Style with Papermill Direct

I'm saying Hello!! with this Giraffe card I created with this week's Special Offer from +papermilldirect:

As the theme this week is ‘Printables’ I thought I would combine a free download with this week’s special offer to create a bright ‘hello’ card. I chose the ‘Safari Animals’ free download from Crafts Beautiful magazine. (links at end of post) Downloads are easy to use and are also perfect for anyone that likes the look of stamped images but perhaps isn’t as confident using ink and stamps, plus they can be printed onto different cardstocks and papers, at different sizes, and you can add colour to them too.

The ‘Safari Animals’ download set consists of a Lion, Tiger and the Giraffe which I have chosen to use. My old printer is a bit temperamental and not always happy to print on thick card but I find that it quite likes the PMD White Linen and when I saw how striking the black & white image was upon the linen texture I decided I would leave it un-coloured. The great thing about printables is that you get to choose what size you want to work with and if you are not sure, then it is easy to test print onto plain copy paper until you are happy with sizing. I trimmed the image panel down to approx. 8cm x 12.5cm and matted onto PMD black card to frame it.

The gorgeous Bright Green Laid card has been used to create a background. I like to put the card stocks through their paces in various ways this week I’m embossing & die-cutting. The back panel has been embossed using a ‘mosaic’ patterned embossing folder and you can see how well it takes the embossing creating a lovely textured background which adds shades and interest as well as being very tactile. The panels have been mounted to the card front using 3D foam pads to give height.

The Bright Green Laid Card is also perfect for die-cutting; you can see it happily copes with both the leafy branch and the ‘hello’ word sentiment perfectly. (The branch actually had a bird on it which I have trimmed off easily with scissors for this project). The die-cut shapes were given a shadow of black card by simply cutting the image again and slightly offsetting, adhering with cosmic shimmer glue, this is a subtle way to help them stand out without being too prominent. I have tried to keep the clean look of the card by keeping to the three basic colours of black, white, & green, Adding some natural coloured Jute trim strip and black sequins topped with pale green adhesive pearls to finish. Completed card size is just over 5” x 7”.

Thinking of You...

Thinking of You... a sentiment that can be used for many different occasions both joyful and sad and is useful when we may not be sure of what to say but want the recipient to know we are thinking of them.
This weeks special offer card from papermill direct a 230gsm 'Ivory Lightly Embossed' card (a small box is just £5 Link Here)  has a delicate embossing on it which I thought would be perfect to print onto with this fabulous downloaded paper which has a water-colour effect.  Now I have one of those printers that can be a bit temperamental with printing onto card as it has the front tray loader, But it seems happy to take all the papermill cards I have tried so far through it and this weeks special offer is no exception, it whizzed through perfectly first time.  I really like the the colours of this patterned paper and how it blended with the texture of the cardstock to make a lovely water-coloury (I know that's not a real word :D) and tactile mat for my card.

If you've been following my blog so far, you will know that I do like to test out the cardstocks in different ways, it is important to not only have good quality materials but also ones that are versatile, that can 'multi-task'.  So here I not only tested it out with direct printing but i also stamped the sentiment with a dew drop ink pad, it stamped lovely on the textured surface first time and no loss of image.  I also tested the card with a Martha Stewart punch. It punched through crisply as you can see.  (I have also tested this particular cardstock by electronic cutting with my Cricut Mini - please see other blog post for that one :))
The colours of the pattern paper were easy to match within the Papermill Direct range of card colours.  Raspberry Pink and Lime Green being the obvious partners.  I added a couple of Card Candis and a bow of lime green ribbon and my design was finished.

Materials Used:
230gsm Light Ivory Embossed 'offer' Card - Papermill Direct
Lime Green card, Raspberry Pink card  - Papermill Direct
Martha Stewart Doily Punch.
'Sweet Little Sentiments' Stamp Set from Clearly Besotted.
Dew Drop Ink Pad in 'Pearlescent orchid'.
Card Candi & Ribbon from my craft stash.
Papers are downloads from Pink Petticoat's new range 'Strawberry Blooms' the design used is called 'Fresh Blooms' which I chose for it's watercolour effect that worked well with the embossed texture of the offer card.

Crafty Folk Shop Of The Week - VerasTreasures

Apologies I'm a little bit late with this weeks 'Shop of The Week' post.  But they say better late than never, so this week it is the turn of VerasTreasures. This shop, owned by Pixie is such a pretty shop to browse.  She has a lovely vintage styling going on and the photographs have been carefully taken to truly capture that vintage feel with such beautiful settings.

In the shop you will find lovely vintage items perfect for afternoon tea perhaps?  Pretty china cups, cake stands, and even vintage aprons and linens.  I didn't realise that there was also a lovely selection of Vintage downloads perfect for crafting too!!  I spotted old postcard and photograph styles.  I will certainly be popping back to check out this section for future craft projects.  You can see for yourself at https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/VerasTreasures.

And again, as part of my SOTW promoting, I have created this Treasury for VerasTreasures, my theme inspired by the lovely items in the shop and includes 2 of them.  I chose items to complement this theme from other Craftyfolk Team members, there are a lot of lovely items to discover, just click the pics :)
